HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms High School Basketball team Wildcats played the first home opener Tuesday night against Citrus Valley High School out of Redlands. Coach Michael Schneider said the Wildcats overcame a late 5-point deficit, and hit clutch free throws from D’Shaun Barrett with three-tenths of second on the clock to push the game to overtime. They never looked back from there, winning by a score of 62-58. This pushes Twentynine Palms High School’s record to 1 and 2.

The Twentynine Palms High School Girls Varsity Basketball team was victorious over Temescal Canyon 66-44 in the first game of the Rancho Verde Tournament. Coach Timothy Stanford said Nokomis Cabrera had 14 points, 13 steals, and nine rebounds. Lindsey Scammon had 14 points and 13 rebounds; Courtney Stanford had 13 points and five rebounds, and Tatiyanna Mackall had eight points and eight rebounds.

In Twentynine Palms High School Soccer, the varsity team lost 0-3 at home to Xavier Prep. Coach Nathan Niles said the biggest team improvement was on corners allowed. The team cut the number in half. The JV soccer squad lost a close and hard fought game 1-0 to Xavier in the last 10 minutes and then had several close attempts to equalize.

In high school sports tonight, the Yucca Valley High School boys’ basketball team will travel away to Banning to play the Banning Broncos. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

The Yucca Valley High School girls’ basketball team travels to San Jacinto tonight; their game time is 6:30.

In high school sports tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ and boys’ soccer teams will host West Shores High School at home. The girls play at 3:15; boys at 5 p.m.
