HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ Wildcat basketball team continued De Anza league play on the road Thursday night against Desert Hot Springs High School. The boys cruised to a 64-to-39 point victory. Coach Michael Schneider said, “Our defense continues to get better and challenge teams on that end of the court. This makes consecutive games in forcing 30+ turnovers.” Demetrius Holmes had 14 points and Andrew Wilson had 13 points with 11 rebounds. Richie Soriano contributed eight assists on the offense end.

The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team notched a 41-32 win last night at Desert Mirage in a De Anza League contest. Coach Jess Geeson said senior Ashley Priest scored a game high 17 points while junior Annika Dendekker netted 12 points and sophomore Taylor Spitz added six points. The win boosts the Yucca girls league record to 8-1 and 18-5 overall.

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat Boys Soccer teams played at home last night against the Golden Eagles of Desert Hot Springs. With a bench of only two, the varsity squad lost by the score of 6-0. Coach Nathan Niles said freshman goalkeeper KJ Morton again recorded double digits in the save department. Junior captain Jake Thacker stepped into the back line and had a great game defensively for the team.

The junior varsity team ended with a11-0 loss. Freshman Nick Stowers stepped into the back line for the first time of the season and made over 10 defensive stops in a great defensive effort.

The Yucca Valley High School Girls’ Soccer team traveled to Thermal to take on Desert Mirage High School in De Anza League play. Coach Scott Phillips said the Lady Trojans controlled the game. Freshman Dasani Rolle scored the needed goal and the Lady Trojans prevailed 1-0. Sophomore Alexia Missett provided the assist and junior Nikole Cody got the shutout.

In high school sports today, the Joshua Springs boy’s basketball team will travel away to Bermuda Dunes to play Desert Christian Academy, starting at 7 p.m.

Coming up tomorrow in high school sports, the Yucca Valley High School wrestling teams will be participating in league championships.
