HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan wrestling team was victorious over Rancho Mirage High School—both on the JV and Varsity level— last night in Trojan gym. Coach Brandon Whitbread said first the Trojan JV team beat the Rattlers 38-12, led by pins from Enrique Luna, Samson Nunez, and Vanessa Contreras. Then the varsity took to the mat and battled to a 57-15 triumph, behind victories from Wade Ingersoll, Trevor Scott, Anthony Espinoza, Christian Oliver, Isaac Arismendiz, and Michael McKay. The Trojans are now 4 and 0 in De Anza League competition.

Tuesday night, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ varsity basketball team started league with a win over Desert Hot Springs at home. Coach Tim Stanford said the ’Cats went on to win the game 64 to 34. Leading scorers on the night were freshman Lindsey Scammon with 24 points and eight rebounds; junior Courtney Stanford with 19 points; and senior captain Nokomis Cabrera with 10 points and five assists.

The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team hosted Desert Mirage High School in De Anza League play. The Lady Trojans dominated the competition, outshooting the Lady Rams 21-1, and winning by a score of 3-0. Coach Scott Phillips said the stats for the game were: sophomore Alexia Missett, two goals; freshman Jackie Bolha, one goal and two assists; sophomore Hayli Mayhood, one assist. Junior Nikole Cody recorded the shutout in goal.

In high school sports today, the Joshua Springs Christian School boys and girls basketball teams will travel away to Camarillo to play Cornerstone Christian School. The girls start at 6; the boys at 7:30.
