The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats boys basketball team were back in De Anza league action last night against Desert Hot Springs. Coach Michael Schneider said it was a defensive battle throughout, but the Wildcats came out on top by a score of 52-48. Freshman D’Shaun Barrett led all scorers with 16 points and Kyle Hope added nine points. This brings Twentynine Palms’ record to 3 and 3 overall, with a De Anza league record of 2 and 0.
The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead and cruised to a 63-29 win over Desert Mirage last night in Trojan Gym. Coach Jess Geeson said senior Ashley Priest led the team with 21 points, while sophomore Taylor Spitz knocked in 13 points. Junior Annika Dendekker came off the bench with nine points and senior Celeste Reyes added eight points. The win upped the team’s De Anza league record to 3-0, and 13-4 overall, with a trip to play Desert Hot Springs next Tuesday.
The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat boys soccer team opened their league play against Desert Hot Springs last night with both junior varsity and varsity losing to the host Golden Eagles. Freshman Nick Stowers scored for JV in their loss. Both will host Shadow Hills this Thursday in Twentynine Palms.
Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School girls soccer team will travel away to Hesperia to play Sultana High School. The girls start at 4:15; the boys play at 6.
Also tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams play Shadow Hills High School. The boys play at home, while the girls will travel away to Indio. Both games start at 5 p.m.
