Twentynine Palms Wildcats boys’ basketball played an aggressive game against the Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagle’s team last night in the Richard Casey Gymnasium and came away with a victory, 65-56. Abraham Bell led all scoring with 23 points, Andrew Wilson 11 points and Elijah Jones put in seven points. The Wildcats had 45 total rebounds for the game. Abraham Bell with 10 rebounds, Demetrius Holmes seven rebounds, and Adam Bell had six rebounds for the game. D’Shaun Barrett lead the defense with three steals; Abraham Bell, Jimmy Shragge, and Demetrius Holmes each had two steals on the night.

The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team scored a 51-37 victory at Desert Mirage last night in De Anza League action. Coach Jess Geeson said senior Annika Dendekker led the team with 11 points while fellow senior September Shaw-Fryer added 10 points. The Yucca Valley High School girls evened their league record at 1-1 and upped their overall record to 10-5.
 
Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer lost to Desert Mirage 9 to 0. Coach Jorge Rodriguez said, “Rancho Mirage High School comes in ranked #1 in the CIF Southern Section and ranked #15 in the state. Our Trojans fought hard, but we just could not match up with this talented group. Junior goalkeeper Steven Castro had 14 saves and junior Vincenzo Castagliola led the defense with constant pressure.  
 
Friday afternoon, the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat boys’ soccer squad traveled to Lucerne Valley to take on the Big Bear Bears. Sophomore Samuel Smith scored twice before the half. In the second half, Junior Ryan Stowers scored twice on assists from Matt Romero. Several key saves by goalkeeper KJ Morton maintained the shutout and the score ended 4-0.  The JV boys lost 2-0. 
 
Friday, the Yucca Valley High School Girls’ Soccer team traveled to Shadow Hills and suffered a tough 9-3 loss. Junior Alexia Missett continued to lead the league in scoring as she notched two more goals. Last Night the team traveled to Desert Mirage and finished with a 3-1 victory. Sophomore Jackie Bolha led the way with one goal and one assist. Freshman Riley Vallo and junior Alexia Missett also added goals for the Lady Trojans. Junior Hayli Mayhood and freshman Stefani Huff provided assists.
 
The Lady Wildcats Soccer Team traveled to Desert Hot Springs High School to take on the Golden Eagles Monday evening, resulting in a 3-2 loss for junior varsity and a 1-0 loss for the varsity team after a pair of highly-contested games. Coach Richard Sanchez said senior goalkeeper Maranda Palmer contributed 23 saves during the closely fought varsity game.

The Yucca Valley Wrestling team placed sixth out of 20 teams at the Adrian Amal Tournament at Silverado High School in Victorville Saturday, with Oncar Sandhu winning third place, Trevor Scott and Gabe Contreras each taking second place.

The Trojan girls’ wrestling team had dominated their competition at the Best of the Best competition at Bonita High School. First place winners were Vanesa Contreras and Kat Kennedy, who both beat everyone in their weight classes.
 
Today in high school sports, the Joshua Springs High School boys’ basketball team will host Excelsior Charter High School at home. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.
The Yucca Valley Wrestling team hosts Desert Mirage High for a league match at Yucca Valley, competition begins at 5 p.m.

Tomorrow in high school sports, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ and boys’ JV basketball teams will face Shadow Hills High School. Girls play at home and boys travel to Shadow Hills. Both games start at 4:30 p.m.

Also tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will face Shadow Hills High School. Boys soccer will travel to Shadow Hills and girls’ soccer will play at home. Both JV games start at 3:15 p.m. and both varsity games begin at 5 p.m.
