The Big Bear High School Lady Bears came to Trojan gym at Yucca Valley High School to begin the second round of De Anza League volleyball play. Coach Matt Jennings said the varsity team fell 0-3. Standouts were Becky Messaros, 10 for 10 serving with three aces, and seven assists; Jade Adair, seven for seven serving, with two aces and eight assists; Ashley Priest six kills, one block; Haley Rayburn, five kills and two blocks.

The junior varsity team also fell 0-2. Becca Dumas was 13 for 13 serving, with four aces and 10 assists; Kyley Beatty had six kills; Nichole Sugita with three kills; Emily Vigrass, two blocks.

The varsity team will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to participate in the Nike Tournament of Champions Volleyball Tournament on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18.

The Twentynine Palms High School Lady ’Cats volleyball team beat the Rattlers from Rancho Mirage in three sets yesterday. The Lady Cats were led by Latasia Benevente with five kills, and Tatiyanna Mackall with five kills, one ace and one assist. Hanna Beard and Courtney Stanford had three kills each. Marie Linton had two kills, while Gabby Salcedo and Breanna Panzarella had one kill a piece. Allix Durrum had one ace serve and 13 assists. The Lady ’Cats are now 3-4 in league play.

The Yucca Valley High School tennis girls beat Big Bear yesterday 15-3. In singles, Carrie Scofield 3-0, Rachel Green 3-0, and Miranada Green, 2 for 3. In doubles, Aimee Frank and Cionne Lonergan won three, Dawn Rich and Moriah Goddard took three. Aislinn Gultzow and Christa Jenkins won two, Sadie Mecham and Myriya Ramirez 1-6. The league record is 8-0. Coach Cindy Miller said this was a great win for the team.
