HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Yucca Valley High School varsity football won their first league game this past Friday against Desert Mirage, 23-16. The game went into double overtime and the Trojans’ defense stepped up in the end to seal the victory. The Trojans were down after the first half, but William Perrance came out with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Micah Muhammad to tie the game. Micah Muhammad also scored the rushing touchdown in the 2nd overtime to get the victory. The Defense was led by sophomore Noah Rodriguez with 15 tackles and Micah Muhammad with 12. Seniors Mike Mckay and Josh Tierney had 10 tackles each. Dustin Hanson scored on a fumble recovery in the first quarter.

The Yucca Valley High School junior varsity Trojans won, overcoming a 19-9 3rd quarter deficit to defeat the Desert Mirage Rams 27-19. Defensive standouts were Andrew Sanchez with 10 tackles and a blocked extra point kick. Robert Malagon added nine tackles and one and a half sacks. On offense, Lucas Lopez had 98 yards on six carries and two touchdown runs. Lopez also added his third punt return for a touchdown on a 58-yard run. Joseph Jennings rushed for 60 yards and one touchdown. Jared Nutter and Lucas Lopez both had interceptions.

The Twentynine Palms varsity Wildcats traveled to Indio Friday night to face the Shadow Hills Knights, losing to a very solid play-off bound team 48-7. Coach Ernest Martinez said key standouts for the ’Cats were Arlen Meyers who led the team in tackles with four. Defensive end Dylan Martinez and linebacker Andrew Wilson combined for 1.5 sacks and 17 tackles. Offensively, Beayahn Carrllo led the team with 69 yards rushing on 18 carries. Senior Jayvon Johnson led the team in receptions with three for 52 yards, while junior wide-out Demetrius Holmes added two catches for 50 yards.

The Twentynine Palms High School frosh-soph team lost a last-second game against Shadow Hills Friday night, as they had several big plays in a very exciting game. The Wildcats rallied to bring the score within one at 32-31 with 1:27 left to play. Standout players were Derek Sutherland with several big pass play receptions, along with Quentin Griffen, Enliko Tuli, Gunner Moss, Josh Carrico, Antonio Ramirez, and quarterback Ryan Smith.

Joshua Springs Lightning football made quick work of host Bloomington Christian, dispatching the Ravens 62-6 and improving to 6-0 on the season. Receiving the ball to start, the Lightning scored in just two plays, as a 48-yard Joey Hagerman to Jordan Lovejoy connection put the ball on the 3-yard line, where Connor McClay scored the first of his three touchdowns on the night. Hagerman finished 14 of 25 for 369 yards, totaling six touchdowns, to just two interceptions. Four different receivers caught touchdown passes, with Lovejoy and Green each receiving over 100 yards. Defensively, McClay and Josh Edelbrock led the way. McClay totaled 14 tackles, adding a caused fumble, a sack, and an interception return touchdown. Edelbrock made 16 stops, nine for loss, earned 2 1/2 sacks, and recovered two fumbles.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Joshua Springs girls’ volleyball team will host Mesa Grande Academy at home. First serve is at 5:30 p.m.
