HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Yucca Valley High School Varsity Trojan football team lost 27-48 to Rancho Mirage Friday night. Coach Andrew Amosa said the Trojans were led by William Perrance with 141 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Creston Cole also had 141 yards rushing with a touchdown, and Tommy Geiger had a rush 22-yard touchdown. Caleb Zietz had an interception on defense and Mike McKay, Oscar Rodriguez and Rene Gamboa all had a quarterback sack to help the defense.

The Yucca Valley High School junior varsity Trojans won 64-0 against Rancho Mirage on Friday. Coach Tim Cannavo said Lucas Lopez, Joseph Jennings, Nathan Harmon, and EJ Featherstone all had rushing touchdowns. Jared Nutter had two rushing touchdowns. Lucas Lopez also had a receiving touchdown from quarterback Jake Moore. Nathan Harmon and Robert Malagon both had interceptions which they returned for touchdowns.

The Twentynine Palms High School varsity Wildcat football team won their homecoming game against the Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagles, 22-14 after an emotional fourth-quarter rally, paying tribute to their beloved assistant coach and teacher Richard Casey before the game. Coach Ernest Martinez said the Wildcats played one of their best games of the season. Jimmy Shragge led the offensive players of the game with 218 yards on the ground and 22 points. Arlen Myers, Deshaun Barrett, Jayvon Johnson, and Jacob Gutierrez accounted for 143 yards on 21 carries. Arlen Myers also led the team in tackles with eight. Dylan Martinez, Kyle Hope, Eneliko Tuli, and Caleb Roy teamed up for 26 tackles on the night. Josh Alderson had five tackles, a forced fumble, and a sack and fellow defensive linemen Jayson Nomura and Shane Estrada combined for six tackles in the game.

The frosh-soph team won 25-0 against Desert Hot Springs.

Joshua Springs Lighting football shut out the visiting Palm Valley Firebirds 52-0 on their way to a 7-1 record. Junior quarterback Joey Hagerman got off to a fast start, completing nine of his first 10 passes on the night, including first-quarter touchdowns to Dylan Green and Jordan Lovejoy. The rest of the night saw the Lightning defense shine, as they forced six turnovers, highlighted by Connor McClay and Dylan Green touchdowns on interception returns. McClay added a touchdown catch to run the score to 38-0 by halftime.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Joshua Springs girls’ volleyball team will travel away to Bloomington Christian School. First serve is at 5:30.
