HI-DESERT WATER LEAKS

Hi-Desert Water District responded to three major water leaks in Yucca Mesa Friday morning. About 4 a.m. Friday morning, there was a pipe leak in the 3700 block of El Dorado Trail. Resident Mike Fagan said water gushed into the air, across dirt roads, and through yards and the open desert for at least 2 ½ to 3 hours, until a water district employee was able to shut off the water and repair the pipe. A leak was then reported in the 56000 block of Skyline Ranch Road at 8:15 a.m. HDWD Assistant General Manager Mark Ban said the leak was due to old infrastructure. A third leak occurred at 8:30 near Warren Vista and Aberdeen. Ban said the cause of this leak was due to a pressure reducing valve that malfunctioned due to a broken control line. Crews have to wait until Underground Service Alert responds to mark other utilities in the area before they excavate which increases repair time in some situations. Ban said no water outages were expected and no additional damage has been reported at either site.
