The Joshua Basin Water District Board of Directors meets in regular session at 7 p.m. tonight. Issues related to water conservation will dominate the agenda following a public hearing on standby charges. This is an annual exercise as the District has not increased water availability charges since 1996. This year’s standby charges exceeded $1 million dollars—or 22 percent of the district’s annual revenue. Turning to conservation, directors will consider joining the Emergency Response Network of the Inland Empire, review a water shortage contingency plan and associated penalties, and likely adopt a revised water conservation ordinance that reflects new restrictions imposed by the State Water Resources Control Board. Those items and others will precede staff and director’s reports. Tonight’s meeting takes place at District offices on Chollita Road in Joshua Tree.

The Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. tonight. Among the items on the agenda, the board will be asked to update the employee handbook and the district’s tuition reimbursement policy, and will consider additional water use restrictions due to the California drought. The board will also be asked to make changes in the language to its will-serve letters, and changes to the construction contracts for the wastewater treatment plant. After a wastewater update and reports and comments from staff and board members, the board will go into closed session to negotiate terms for sewer easements for 25 properties.
