A preliminary hearing will continue today in the manslaughter case against Mariah Natividad, the 22-year-old Marine accused of driving under the influence and killing Lonnie and Patricia Tiner of Twentynine Palms in May. Three witnesses testified Thursday, with at least three more scheduled for today. According to the California Highway Patrol, Natividad is suspected of driving under the influence May 17 when her Toyota Prius hit the Tiners’ Ford F-150 truck from behind, just east of Juniper Road and Highway 62 in Joshua Tree, sending it into the desert and causing it to roll over several times. The Tiners were taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, where they died 10 minutes apart the next day. Lonnie Tiner, 80, and Patricia Tiner, 75, were very well known health providers who were held in high regard by the community. Mariah Natividad, a lance corporal with the Exercise Support Division on the Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, has pleaded not guilty to two charges of vehicular manslaughter, two charges of DUI, and hit-and-run resulting in death. She is being held on $250,000 bail at the West Valley Detention Center.
