FUNK BAND CONCERT TONIGHT TO BENEFIT ELEMENTARY SCIENCE CAMP

A popular local funk band will hold a concert tonight at the Twentynine Palms Elks Lodge to raise money to send sixth graders from Twentynine Palms Elementary School to science camp. Desert Sol features music from The Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, K.C. & the Sunshine Band, Cool & the Gang, and Chicago. Members are from Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree and Wonder Valley. Band leader Kimo Brownmiller plays alto sax. Horace Miller is on lead vocals and percussion. The drummer is Dennis McDade and Gilbert Rios is on percussion. Keyboards is Richard Dishmon and a large horn section with Ryan Terleski, Bill Barrett, Steve Lusk Pat Kerchival and Steve Caron. Larry Gutierrez plays lead guitar and Kerry Rose on bass.
The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a DJ to start the party off; the first of two sets from Desert Sol will be at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $5. Groups of 4 to 7 get in for $15. For more information call 760-699-1861.
