DESERT RUN FUNDRAISER A HUGE SUCCESS

The recent Desert Run, a fundraiser for the local Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, was a huge success. Managing editor Tami Roleff tells us who the winners were…
The 35th Annual Desert Run, held earlier this month, is a fundraiser than raises money for the Morongo Basin Search and Rescue organization to purchase equipment needed to conduct searches for evidence and missing persons. This year’s Desert Run had 335 entrants drive a variety of 4-wheel-drive and off-road vehicles over 15 to 20 miles of rough terrain, while collecting playing cards at five stations to put together a poker hand. The top three poker hands were held by: John Price, Gabriel Tibbets, and Orion Higgins, who won prizes donated by local merchants. This year’s Desert Run brought in about $9,000, which will be used to help with expenses, such as the purchase of a trailer to haul equipment out to search sites. The Morongo Basin Search and Rescue has been involved in numerous missing person searches this year, including the search for Erin Corwin, the Twentynine Palms woman whose body was found in August at the bottom of a mine shaft east of Twentynine Palms after thousands of hours of searching. The search and rescue team thanks all the vendors, merchants, volunteers, and participants of this year’s fun run.
