COUNTY SHERIFF, SUPERVISOR FINED FOR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION VIOLATIONS

The state Fair Political Practices Commission has fined San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon and Fourth District Supervisor Curt Hagman $1500 each for campaign finance reporting violations during the 2014 election. McMahon’s and Hagman’s campaign treasurers were both fined as well. All four have already stipulated to the violations and paid the fines. McMahon and his treasurer were fined for accepting contributions totaling $600 in a cashier’s check and money order, and Hagman and his treasurer were fined for accepting a contribution of $8200 in a cashier’s check, none of which were drawn from the bank account of the contributors. McMahon said volunteers working on his campaign mistakenly accepted the contributions, which were deposited into his campaign account.
