COTTONWOOD TRAILS OPEN

In time for the busy fall and holiday season, a long-closed area of Joshua Tree National Park is again open to visitors.  Ranger Pam Tripp invites you to Cottonwood Spring…

Here at Joshua Tree National Park we are excited to say that trails at the Cottonwood Spring area are now open after a closure due to flash flooding. This includes Cottonwood Spring, Lost Palms Oasis, and the Mastodon Mine Loop in the southern part of the park. The park is maintaining a limited closure of off-trail areas at Cottonwood Spring to allow for additional work.  In this busy time of the year, campgrounds are often full, so plan ahead. Cooler fall temperatures make long distance hikes more reasonable. Bring adequate food, water and sunscreen, as well as layered clothing. Ensure someone knows where you are planning to hike.  Cottonwood Visitor Center will be open from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm daily. Stop in and plan your day. Rangers will have additional information about hiking in the area.  For information by phone contact us at 760-367-5500 or check our official website at www.nps.gov/jotr.  And as always, enjoy your national parks and public lands safely.
