COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT ARRESTED FOR TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL ASSAULT

A Twentynine Palms High School senior, chosen just two weeks ago for the prestigious Copper Mountain College Foundation Greenleaf Scholarship, was arrested Thursday afternoon after school officials say he assaulted a younger student. According to a Sheriff’s press release, Aiden Blake Smith, 19, a resident of Twentynine Palms, punched a 15-year-old student in the face at the school. The victim was treated at an area hospital for severe swelling to his nose and face. Investigators contacted Smith at his home in the 6100 block of Baileya where he admitted to punching the victim. Aiden Smith was arrested for investigation of assault with serious injuries, and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with bail set at $100,000. It is not known is Smith will retain the scholarship, which pays for Smith’s tuition, books, fees, and living expenses while at Copper Mountain College, and when he transfers to a four-year school.
