CLARIFICATION ON A STORY ABOUT CHILDREN HURT IN CRASH

A clarification to a story we ran on Monday about a traffic crash Saturday that sent a 7-year-old Yucca Valley girl to the hospital. The second child in the car was a 2-year-old boy, not a girl as we reported. The 7-year-old girl sustained multiple skull fractures, a broken chin, and fractures of her leg and pelvis. She remains in critical condition at Loma Linda Medical Center. Her mother, Elanora Wood, was also admitted to Loma Linda hospital over the weekend but was discharged. Shortly after 6:40 Saturday evening, Wood’s westbound Mitsubishi collided head on with a Volkswagen driven by Ricky Baine of Yucca Valley as Baine made a turn onto northbound Hilton Avenue at Highway 62 in Yucca Valley. A passenger in Wood’s car, Paul Maki, sustained a minor injury and was treated at Hi-Desert Medical Center, as was the 2-year-old boy as a precaution.
