CIVIL LAWSUIT IN SHERIFF’S DEPUTY FATAL CRASH GOES TO ARBITRATION

The case involving a Sheriff’s deputy who killed a Twentynine Palms man in a 2013 crash has gone to mediation. About 7:30 p.m. April 30, 2013, Deputy Erdem Gorgolu was driving eastbound on the highway in front of the Stater Brothers shopping center in Twentynine Palms when his patrol car crashed into a Toyota Camry at Encelia Avenue, driven by Luc Van Bui, 64. Bui was killed in the collision and Gorgolu was seriously injured and taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Bui’s family has filed a civil lawsuit against Gorgolu, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the County, and the City of Twentynine Palms. The case was heard by a mediator December 18; the case is expected to be in court again March 24.
