The Twentynine Palms Historical Society will hold the 75th annual weed show entitled: “Diamond in the Rough: 75 Years in the Making.” Reporter Rebecca Havely has all the categories for entering your composition in the show…
The 2015 Weed Show categories include “Weed Magic” for miniature compositions 3 inches by 3 inches; and “Time Out for Weeds,” for 6- by-6-inch entries. Two categories involving purple glass—one with flawless glass, “Ladies of the Club;” the other with broken glass, “Broken Dreams.” “Desert Colorama” should include three different colors. Other categories include specific accessories such as an item from the Old West (“Dried Drama”), a rusty tool (Tools of the Trade,”) or weathered wood (“Eye of the Beholder”). “Flower Shop” should include both dried weeds and fresh plants. There’s a category for oversized compositions (“Monumental Moments”) and two kids categories; for 8 years and under, “Good Old Schoolhouse” must include a school item. Kids 9 to 12, “Journey To Mars” should include space-related touches. Finally, “No Holds Barred” is for past Blue Ribbon winners and anything goes! Entries will accepted Friday, November 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday morning from 7 to 9 a.m.
The Weed Show is November 7 from 12 to 4 p.m. and November 8 from 10 a.m to 4 at the Old Schoolhouse Museum, 6760 National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms.
