CAMPING IN THE NATIONAL PARK

At this time of year, the “Campgrounds Full” sign is often up at the corner of Highway 62 and Park Boulevard.  Ranger Pam Tripp tells where you might find space, and how to act when you get there…

Campsites in Joshua Tree National Park will once again start to fill on the weekends.  While most of our nine campgrounds are on a first come, first serve basis, reservations can be made for Indian Cove and Black Rock, or for group sites at Sheep Pass, Indian Cove, and Cottonwood.

As you enjoy the beautiful desert landscape and large rock formations, camping under clear night skies can be breathtaking.  For a more rugged experience, you can even try camping in the backcountry.

Campfires are allowed in designated fire rings; however, you must bring your own firewood as gathering of any vegetation in the park is prohibited.  No fires are allowed in the backcountry, and, as always, bring plenty of water.

There are a variety of activities to keep everyone engaged.  Stop by any of our three visitor centers to get maps and information, and to learn more about the camping rules and regulations.  To make camping reservations, call 1-877-444-6777.

For Z107.7, this is Park Ranger Pam Tripp…reminding you to enjoy the solace, wonder, and wild of your national park.
