CALTRANS GIVES AN UPDATE ON MORONGO VALLEY HIGHWAY PLANS

Last month, Caltrans held a special meeting in Morongo Valley to offer an update on the Route 62 median project. Some of the plans presented met with community favor, other items encountered resistance. More community input came to light at Tuesday night’s Community Services District meeting. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has details…

At Tuesday night’s CSD meeting, General Manager Donna Munoz presented Caltrans’ responses to some of the concerns surrounding the highway median project. Chief among them is a traffic signal Caltrans has proposed at Bella Vista. The plan met with considerable opposition and at Tuesday night’s meeting, consensus was that the preferred location for a new signal would be at the entrance to the Roadrunner Mobile Home Park. Munoz will seek input from park residents before proposing the idea to Caltrans. Also of concern are the locations of cross highway access points to which Caltrans assures all access points are currently under review. And a third area of concern involves making U-turns across lanes marked for 65 miles per hour to which Caltrans cautions drivers must yield to approaching traffic. There is some cause for optimism as Caltrans assures residents that the traffic signal and other changes are being thoroughly re-evaluated.
