This just in… A Dollar General store will be coming to Joshua Tree. The County Board of Supervisors followed staff recommendations and denied the appeal against the Dollar General store during their meeting today. Following the County Planning Commission’s approval in January of a conditional use permit for the chain store, a group of concerned residents formed the Joshua Tree Downtown Business Alliance to appeal the CUP and express their opposition to the construction of a Dollar General store in Joshua Tree. Opponents claim the chain store will adversely impact tourism, the local economy, and the village identity of Joshua Tree. We’ll have more details in our news tomorrow.
