AUDITIONS FOR COMEDIC MUSICAL AT THEATRE 29 MONDAY

Theatre 29 announces open auditions for the comedic musical, who-done-it “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” Monday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. Director Charles Harvey is looking to cast several roles. Reporter Rebecca Havely has the cast of characters …

“The Mystery of Edwin Drood” characters are all part of an acting troupe; they all play a minimum of two characters. They are led by “The Chairman.” This character guides the audience through the story with dry wit; he’s 50-65. The characters John Jasper and Neville Landless are both handsome leading men in the troupe, age 27-35. Reverend Crisparkle, the Vicar with a secret, is 35-45. Durdles, the comic grave digger, is 50-60. The Deputy is a young man, 20-27; he’s new to acting. Bazzard is 40-45 and desperately wants his own role, not the understudy. The female roles are: Edwin Drood, 25-35, a female who plays male roles in the troupe. Rosa Bud is 20-24, the innocent ingénue; Helena, 25-30, plays an East Indian woman, and Princess Puffer, age 35-60, is proprietress of a brothel and Opium den. Several more ensemble male and female roles are also available.
Please bring a backing track CD of a musical theatre song, no accompanist will be present. Script sides will be provided for cold readings and dress prepared to move. Auditions are Monday, April 13, held at 6:30 p.m. on the Theater 29 Main stage.
