ANN LEAR ARTWORK TO BE RAFFLED AT SPELL-A-THON

The annual Literacy Coalition Spell-a-Thon is set for next Saturday, March 14.  Managing Editor Tami Roleff says that an art raffle accompanies the competition…

Artist Ann Lear has donated one of her paper collage artworks, entitled “Falling Water” to be raffled off during the 24th annual Spell-a-Thon, sponsored by the Twentynine Palms Kiwanis Club. The artwork is a 12-inch by 16-inch rendering of a waterfall with an eagle soaring overhead. Raffle tickets are available through March 12 at the Twentynine Palms library, as well as at the spell-a-thon, to be held at the Helen Gray Education Center in Joshua Tree, starting at 9 a.m. All proceeds from the raffle and spell-a-thon fundraiser go to the Morongo Basin Coalition for Adult Literacy, which provides one-on-one free tutoring to adults. The deadline for teams to sign up for the spell-a-thon is today. Call Herman Platzke at 760-972-7205 to register. For more information on free tutoring, call Kathy Truesdell at 760-362-4132.
