A FATAL CAR VERSUS PEDESTRIAN CRASH IN TWENTYNINE PALMS LAST NIGHT

A Twentynine Palms woman was killed last night when she was struck by a car as she was crossing Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Matthew Yost, Agnes Quitano, 19, was crossing Highway 62 near Mission Avenue in the middle of the block about 6:45 p.m. when she was struck by a 1994 Toyota Tacoma, driven westbound on the highway by Amy Perkins, 24, of Joshua Tree. Quitano was thrown 30 to 40 feet by the impact and suffered major trauma. Agnes Quitano was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center where she died of her injuries about an hour later. Perkins was not injured in the crash. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash.
