53 ARTISTS, 26 LOCAL, SELECTED FOR NATIONAL PARK ART SHOW

Of the 53 artists selected for inclusion in the third annual Joshua Tree National Park juried art exhibition, 26 are local artists. From Joshua Tree are Matt Collins, Doug Dolde, Fred Fulmer, James Hammons, Jennifer Kane, Casey Kiernan, Noreen Lawlor, James O’Keefe, Eric Pfranger, Karine Swenson, Alita Van Vliet, and John Van Vliet.
From Twentynine Palms are Penelope Benson-Wright, Chuck Caplinger, Pat Flynn-Zawojski, Mark Spangenberg, and Bob Arnett.
Yucca Valley artists include Janis Commentz, Bill Dahl, Myra Kennedy, Darlene Morris, Jean Scobie, Esther Shaw, Barbara Spiller, and Krista Wargo, and from Landers is Marcia Geiger.
One international artist, David Flatt of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, was selected for the exhibition.
Out-of-state artists selected to show are Allyson Adkisson of Pearland, Texas; Wayne Brezinka of Old Hickory, Tennessee; Jessica L. Bryant of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Ronald LeMahieu of Princeton, New Jersey; Anita Marci of Lahaina, Hawaii; Kyle Rafferty of Phoenix, Arizona; and Kim Zarney of Cleveland, Ohio.
Artists from neighboring desert communities are Dennis Johnson of Palm Springs, Robert Miramontes of Desert Hot Springs, and Martha Villegas-Valentin of Cathedral City.
Artists from other California cities are: Suzy Beal of Tujunga, Valerie M. Birkhoff of Grass Valley, Kelly Booth of Vallejo, Linda Brown of Claremont, Larry Carpenter of San Marcos, Nick Carver of Irvine, Jane Culp of Anza, Romina Del Castillo of Long Beach, Jacob Gonzales of Sacramento, Debra Holladay of Pomona, Gerhard Kammer of Studio City, Kathy Kleinsteiber of San Jose, Chip Morton of Menifee, Jessica Schiffman of Idyllwild, Doug Shoemaker of San Francisco, and Jeffrey Skelly of Sunland.
The artists submitted work that depicts or was inspired by Joshua Tree National Park, and a jury of five artists and photographers determined which works would be included in the show. The show will be on display at the 29 Palms Art Gallery from November 6 through 29; an awards reception for the Joshua Tree National Park art exhibition will be held November 13 and an art expo will be held at the 29 Palms Inn November 14 and 15.
