Just 16 months ago, in May 2014, the Marines of 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment deactivated their battalion for the seventh time due to a reduction of forces to 175,000 Marines. However, due to increasing operational requirements around the world, 3/4 is being reactivated again. While the official reactivation date is October 1, the Marines are holding their reactivation ceremony today on Lance Corporal Torrey L. Gray Field at the Combat Center in Twentynine Palms.
