Membership in the National Honor Society gives high-GPA students opportunities for community service. ROP Broadcasting student Brianna Jillson tells what the group is, and what it does…
Twentynine Palms High School has a group called National Honor Society. I asked National Honor Society adviser Mrs. Wilson a couple of questions about National Honor Society. What is National Honor Society? “The National Honor Society is a 93-year-old service organization created by principals and teachers, designed for students with a 3.5 GPA to help in their community.”
How do you get into National Honor Society? “You get into the National Honor Society by maintaining a 3.5-weighted GPA. You must be in 11th or 12th grade here at Twentynine Palms High School. We don’t have a junior National Honor Society.”
What does National Honor Society do? “National Honor Society helps in the community where it can. Currently we do Breaking Bread. We have done Hooked on Books, which is my favorite. We make sure the students have books for the summer. We love International Festival, we get involved and at school we do the computer (unintelligible). And we do Relay for Life which is one of our favorites. The students must have service hours by the end of the year and maintain a 3.5 GPA. And that’s what we do in Twentynine Palms for the National Honor Society.”
