FREE SPEECH AT COPPER MOUNTAIN COLLEGE...Read it at: http://www.z1077fm.com/free-speech-at-copper-mountain-college/
Mase Shirley The fact that the school even has free speech zones is pretty absurd
January 30, 2015 at 1:14 PM1
Mase Shirley Isn't America a free speech zone?
January 30, 2015 at 1:15 PM3
PJ Reindel It was nice to see that it encouraged thought, communication and a learning experience.
January 30, 2015 at 1:16 PM
PJ Reindel That is currently a big area of debate Mase and I am with you on the First Amendment guarantees the right to free speech on any public lands or private lands with permissions. However, there is no recent case law on the matter.
January 30, 2015 at 1:23 PM1
Matt Evans And free speech can only go so far. Freedom of speech does not mean you get to say whatever you want.
January 30, 2015 at 3:01 PM
Mase Shirley Look one of those guys who thinks freedom of speech means only if it doesn't offend someone who differs in points of view. Maybe they should just call it limited speech
January 30, 2015 at 3:09 PM
Matt Evans Free speech was never meant to protect you from the consequences of your words.
January 30, 2015 at 3:23 PM
Matt Evans That's a fact. Also, nice assumption though.
January 30, 2015 at 3:24 PM
PJ Reindel There is an endangerment clause, not written in the Amendment itself but, upheld through case law, that has to be upheld. Typically referred to as the " "FIRE!" in a movie theater" clause. It includes libel, slander, direct threats and "disrupting orderly conduct". But, aside from that, folks can pretty well express themselves and their views however they wish.
January 30, 2015 at 3:24 PM2
Mase Shirley So some bible thumper can't share their religion because there's consequences for doing so? Sounds like the person dishing out the consequence needs a little less freedom for getting upset over a few words.
January 30, 2015 at 3:25 PM
PJ Reindel Mase, that is exactly what occurred at CMC. And, they absolutely may share their religion. As may a Wicken, a follower of Odin, a Satanist, a Muslim and a Hindu. As long as what they are saying doesn't fit into the the Fire in a Theater clause, they may speak their mind.
January 30, 2015 at 3:28 PM
PJ Reindel One thing many forget about the First Amendment and all the Amendment's and the Constitution in general... it grants the right for all to speak freely but, it does not grant the right to not have to hear it. That's left to personal choice.
January 30, 2015 at 3:30 PM
Mase Shirley Then why is this guy saying they should be limited if they weren't doing those things?
January 30, 2015 at 3:30 PM
Matt Evans I never said that a bible enthusiast couldn't share their views? Point is, the.re can be consequences if some things are said. And, to top that off, OTHERS get to share what they think of your words
January 30, 2015 at 3:33 PM
PJ Reindel I think he's speaking in generalities, not about this situation specifically but, I could be mistaken. He will have to speak to that.
January 30, 2015 at 3:34 PM1
Matt Evans So tip 1: Stop generalizing. :)
January 30, 2015 at 3:36 PM
Mase Shirley I agree he's talking generally rather then about the matter being discussed
January 30, 2015 at 3:40 PM
Matt Evans You said, "America is a free speech zone." Sure, but that doesn't protect you from any consequences of your words.
January 30, 2015 at 4:00 PM
Matt Evans Same here, it seems like this person was obstructing classrooms or something
January 30, 2015 at 4:01 PM
Mase Shirley It's a school in America. Directly applies to this subject
January 30, 2015 at 4:01 PM
Matt Evans America is broad :)
January 30, 2015 at 4:02 PM
PJ Reindel Matt, he was not obstructing anything. He was perfectly fine in what he was doing. I know this first hand as I was present to witness it all.
January 30, 2015 at 4:05 PM1
Mase Shirley No
January 30, 2015 at 4:07 PM
Matt Evans Was he interrupting?
January 30, 2015 at 4:07 PM
PJ Reindel No, as the article states, students were complaining because they did not like what he was saying BUT, as the Campus President stated, he was in full compliance in his actions. What he was saying was unpopular with many and stir up quite a bit on conversation on campus but, it was done in a constitutionally protected manner.

Amber Ostler-Ramirez I don't see how it's right to report the location that victims went. How is this protecting the victims?
January 30, 2015 at 1:19 PM2
Casey Shirley I have to agree with Amber Ostler-Ramirez. Fortunately for the safety of the victims, they will be listed by a trauma # rather than their true names.
January 30, 2015 at 1:44 PM3
Amber Ostler-Ramirez Yeah HIPPA violation....just a little.
January 30, 2015 at 1:45 PM2
